Facing Trials (Part 2) - "Dependence on God"
« Back to DevotionalsOur Need
Trials are incredibly painful. Yet they
can teach us that momentary suffering leads
to long-term blessing. This is because trials
teach us to trust God's character and commandments.
When couples trust God's perspective concerning
trials and fix their eyes on Him, they begin
to see God more clearly. His faithfulness
and Word begin to take on new meaning.
God's Principle
The book of Psalms encourages us to turn
to God during times of trial:
"I know, O Lord, that your laws are righteous,
and in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
May your unfailing love be my comfort, according
to your promise to your servant" (Psalm
119: 75--76; see also verse 71).
Through trials, God is able to demonstrate
Himself to us. His Word becomes our reality.
His faithfulness becomes our hope. His unfailing
love serves as our comfort. Couples who
focus on God and His promises regain hope
and experience a deeper relationship with
Him and each other.
Our Response
In light of God's desire to use trials to
help us grow in oneness with each other
and Him, answer the following:
1. When facing a trial, where does your
hope truly rest? What steps must you take
to fully transfer the burden of your trial
to God?
2. Have you prayed together as a couple
and asked God to guide you through your
trial? Ask God to use your trial to
draw you closer to Him and to each other.
